AFT 2121
Candidate for President
Candidate Statement
I want to be part of the AFT-ACC leadership because of several reasons, but mainly it is because I want to bring what we have achieved at the local level as Part-Timers here at my local 2121 CCSF to the national level. Also, and above all, I want to make sure that we win the ultimate fight which is to achieve the fairest and more just formula: 80% full time faculty vs 20% Part-time faculty across the nation.
While I was the Political Director at my local (City College of San Francisco, AFT2121), I was able to lead on several fights to improve the overall conditions of our fellow Faculty brothers and sisters.
I am proud to say that I was able to put together not just once but, on several occasions, a wide-regional coalition to stop the threatening fees increase to our students in California. Additionally, I was able to put together along with my team, the largest march ever gathered in Sacramento in 2010.
At the San Francisco Labor Council, I was able to work with our sisters union organizations where we always support each others' causes.
Additionally, as the Chair of our Part-Timers Committee at my CCSF local, we have one of the best, if not the best paid Part-Timers of our State. I won't rest until I see that at least we achieve the fair and just formula: 80% Full Timers vs 20% Part-Timers at the national level. Si Se Puede!
